The marine park of Alonnisos.
The National επιπλα Marine Park of Alonnisos in Sporades is the first park in Greece, which since 1996 is responsible for the protection of the seal (Monachus monachus) and its habitat, while its extent reaches 2,200 sq. km that places this park at the top, as the largest in Europe.
Disruption of the balance of nature by man has made matter of great importance the existence of such parks that place coercive intervention and stands in the cross fire of interests and the on-going industrialization that pollutes the planet daily, creating irreparable damage.
In the land belonging to the park there are plenty of sites with cultural and scientific interest, as identified findings from the prehistoric, classical and Byzantine period.
Alonnisos and six smaller islands, Peristera, Kira Panagia, Psathoura, Piperi, Skatzoura and Yura and 22 islets, host except of seals and other endangered species such as falcon’s, sea gulls and the goat of Yuron.
In areas that the public is allowed to enter, visitors are requested to follow the rules of the park in a strict manner while they can freely swim, dive, take pictures and film the area and also visit cultural sites.
These areas are παιδικα επιπλα landscapes of incomparable beauty that you have to visit and why not, you may be able to see even from a distance one of the sweet seals that have found safety and refuge in this piece of land and sea.
